Hashtag strategies are important. Otherwise it's going to look like you're just spamming your audience, and just trying to get attention. Sure, you may be using Instagram specifically with the end goal of getting more attention, but it's important to remember that not all attention is created equal. Any hashtag will get your post seen, but for that impression to also generate a like, a follow, or even a link click, they need to be relevant. Too often we see photographers including hashtags of countries or locations that have nothing to do with their image. They're just looking for attention, and it shows.

While growing your Instagram audience, you may be tempted to purchase followers, and help boost the appeared status of your profile. Sure, it may seem like your page is popular at first glance, but your post likes aren't even going to come close to matching your follower count, and is going to set off some red flags with your audience. Purchased followers are typically going to do more harm than good, and may result in your next big opportunity passing your account up for a more engaging one. Not only can this dissuade your current and potential audience from following along, it can also result in troubles with Instagram; which never ends well. If your'e lucky, Instagram will remove the followers you bought with your hard earned cash; if you're not so lucky, Instagram will ban your account, and all your hard work will be lost forever. It's not a pretty sight.
